Frequently asked questions

What conditions must I meet to be eligible to work for RailCorp?
All applicants must be eligible to work in Australia.

Note: roles other than apprenticeships require applicants to be 18 years of age or above to be eligible to apply. Some employment conditions also have added requirements and may have different selection methods. It is important to remember to check this website regularly for changes in requirements.

Does RailCorp support my TAFE and other studies?
All employees who undertake required or further work-related study are entitled to have their training course fees reimbursed. In the case of an apprenticeship, all TAFE costs are met directly by RailCorp.

What is the starting salary?

    Under 21 years of age Over 21 years of age
  1st year $427.64 Inclusive Industry allowance per week $639.27 Inclusive Industry allowance per week

What holidays am I entitled to?
RailCorp employees are entitled to 4-5 weeks annual leave per year, depending on their shiftwork status, and one additional accrued day off every four weeks.

What selection methods do you use to determine successful applicants?
RailCorp uses a number of selection methods to choose successful applicants. These include job related testing, assessments centre, interviews, phone screening, application screening, medical tests, criminal record checks and reference checks.

Does RailCorp keep my details on file for future positions?
RailCorp no longer keeps expression of interest databases. If kept on file, your details may not be accurate when the position becomes available.

How do I find out if my application has been successful?
RailCorp receives many applications each day, and endeavours to assess and respond to every application as quickly as possible. All applicants will be advised about whether their application will progress once all applications have been assessed. This will be as soon as possible after the advertised closing date. We thank all applicants for their understanding.

Who do I contact if I’m experiencing technical difficulties in applying online?
If you have difficulty understanding the instructions or experience technical troubles, please contact our Recruitment Centre on 1300 783 065, or email recruitment@railcorp.nsw.gov.au.

When do I start in 2009?
Induction sessions for first year RailCorp Apprentices begin in early January 2009.
