Frequently asked questions

What conditions must I meet to be eligible to work for RailCorp?

All applicants must be eligible to work in Australia.

Roles other than apprenticeships require applicants to be 18 years of age or above to be eligible to apply. Some employment conditions also have added requirements and may have different selection methods. It is important to remember to check this website regularly for changes in requirements.

Does RailCorp support my TAFE and other studies?

All employees who undertake required or further work-related study are entitled to have their training course fees reimbursed. In the case of an apprenticeship, all TAFE costs are met directly by RailCorp.

What is the starting salary?

  1st year $462.55 per week $691.49 per week
  2nd year $548.20 per week $711.70 per week
  3rd year $676.86 per week $742.25 per week
  4th year $786.93 per week $786.93 per week

 

Note: All rates of pay are as at 1 April 2009 and inclusive of the industry allowance.

What holidays am I entitled to?

RailCorp employees are entitled to 4-5 weeks annual leave per year, depending on their shiftwork status, and one additional accrued day off every four weeks.

What is the selection process for apprenticeships?

RailCorp uses a number of selection methods to choose successful applicants. These include application screening, phone interviews, job related testing, assessments centres, medical tests, criminal record checks and reference checks. The selection process will continue throughout the last half of 2009. More information on the recruitment process.

Does RailCorp keep my details on file for future positions?

RailCorp no longer keeps expression of interest databases. If kept on file, your details may not be accurate when the position becomes available. You should check back regularly for positions available or sign up for our Job Alert service.

How do I find out if my application has been successful?

RailCorp receives many applications each day, and endeavours to assess and respond to every application as quickly as possible. All applicants will be advised about whether their application will progress once all applications have been assessed. This will be as soon as possible after the advertised closing date. We thank all applicants for their understanding.

The process for Apprenticeships is particularly competitive, therefore we anticipate the process continuing for some months to allow careful consideration of all applicants. You will be contacted as soon as we have information about your application available.

If I was successful in gaining an apprenticeship position with RailCorp, when would I start?

Apprenticeships are due to start in January and February 2010.

How do I tell you which trade I want?

Throughout the selection process we will provide you with more information around each trade available, and we will ask you to submit your preferences for trades at a later stage in the process.
