What our apprentices think

Katherine

The training involved is absolutely amazing - the depth of it and just how willing everyone is to teach you. It’s fantastic. You actually want to get out of bed.

As an apprentice electrical fitter mechanic, Katherine helped rebuild an old 1926 CPH rail motor. She is hoping to study engineering or work her way up to a service manager.

Caddie

As a substations distribution apprentice I’ve had the chance to work on equipment that protects the whole electrical system in RailCorp. I love it.

Caddie works as an apprentice substations distribution. She gets to work on equipment that protects the whole RailCorp electrical system. She hopes to become an assistant engineer.

Vannak

It’s the best job I’ve ever had. You’re really looked after, it’s like family. And with RailCorp your trade is recognised - you never know where you will be in 10 years.

Vannak is working as a rail traction apprentice. He helps maintain and construct overhead wiring and powerlines which feed the substations and trains across Sydney.

Jarred

I would say, join RailCorp because it provides good training, it’s a secure job, and there are many opportunities to take your career higher.

Jarred, of the Kamilaroi Nation, is in his final year as an apprentice electrician at Circular Quay in Sydney. He hopes to become a signal engineer.
